Kelley scores big with Himalayan Tahr
John and Connie Kelley of Meeker, Colo., traveled to New Zealand for a hunting excursion in July, 2007. While there, they hunted red stag, Fallow deer and free-ranging Chamois and Himalayan Tahr.

The hunting was done on the South Island, in the very rugged Southern Alps with Glenroy Lodge, outfitter Jim Hunter and guide Steve Rigby. All of the animals were introduced to New Zealand in the very early 1900s and, because the country has no natural predators, they have flourished well. Connie harvested this very nice Tahr.
After getting the trophies sent back to the states, clearing customs and drying time, SCI official measurer Greg Glasgow officially scored Connie’s Tahr as ranking with a tie for No. 12 in the world. Her name will appear in the SCI record book and a plaque will honor the accomplishment.
