Colorado asking for hunters’ opinions on future regulations of big game seasons

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is requesting public comment and feedback to help determine the 5-year Big Game Season Structure for deer, elk, pronghorn, bear and moose.

Every five years, the Colorado Wildlife Commission adopts a Big Game Season Structure to provide an overall framework for annual hunting regulations. The 5-year structure addresses issues including the timing and length of hunting seasons, legal hunting methods, the general proportion of licenses that will be limited or unlimited, and the balance among different kinds of hunting opportunities.

The current structure ends in 2009, and this 5-year cycle will determine guidelines for the 2010-2014 seasons.

Many local economies and a variety of interest groups are directly affected by Colorado’s big game hunting seasons. Therefore, the DOW encourages hunters, outfitters, landowners, restaurant and small business owners to participate in this process. Every opinion is important and will help guide the Wildlife Commission during this important decision-making process.

General information and participation opportunities will be made available through the following mediums:

DOW Website

The DOW’s website will provide the most up-to-date information regarding this process. Constituents are encouraged to visit the website often for the latest news and participation opportunities.

Public Forums

The DOW will be using a mix of existing meetings and special forums to provide the general public with the opportunity to meet with Wildlife Commissioners and DOW staff. These meetings will be held at various locations throughout the state. Meeting locations, agendas, and times will be posted on the DOW website.

Mailing List

Constituents may sign up to receive updates and information by e-mail or regular mail. A sign-up link and instructions are located on the DOW website.

Letters

Suggestions and comments may be sent through the U.S. Mail by writing to:

c/o Public Involvement Section

E-Mail

The DOW encourages people to e-mail their comments and suggestions to the following address: wildlife.bgss@state.co.us

All rules and regulations will be finalized in September 2009, when the Wildlife Commission will vote on all proposed measures. The DOW stresses the importance of early involvement and encourages the public to become active in this rule-making process as soon as possible.

The Colorado Wildlife Commission is an 11-member board appointed by the governor. The Commission sets DOW regulations and policies for hunting, fishing, watchable wildlife and nongame and threatened and endangered species. The commission also oversees DOW land purchases and property regulations.

For the next 5 years you will set the big game season structure. The big game on all Federal land belongs to all the people, not Colorado. undoubtedly you will screw the non-resident more to make for the fact were not coming like we use to, you have priced the biggest majority of us out of hunting in Colorado, thank you greedy bastards for that. Because of your price gouging and the oil company’s price gouging (at least the oil companies gouge all of us not just non-residents) we wont be coming to Colorado like the good old days. And to all the people that depend on us spending money each hunting season in your business, were not coming like we use to, so look to your greedy Wildlife commission. You need to put pressure on your greedy Governor to stop treating people so badly by gouging us. And to the Resident hunters that think this is turning out so great, you will have it all to your self’s, you are going to find out the real deal with all that non-resident money being missing. People are putting more pressure on our U S Senators and U S House Representatives to control all the U S Lands for a Federal Hunting Licenses on our lands in the west, that it would cost us all the same.

Dave, I could not agree with you more!just look at the price of a non-resident junior tag, up until 07 colorado was charging a 17 year old (non-resident)the same price as an adult but a few phone calls and a so called miss print in the colorado outdoors guide, via a law suite threat changed that,ya buddy!!my kid was rite in the middle of it.I think a refund for all the 17 year old kids that paid full boat for that year is due.I by the due belive that resident hunters should pay a little more then they are now, and non-residents should pay a fair price, how about group discounts;I have thought about that for a long time(i will wright something about that real soon)last thougt for now,a junior is a junior; resident or non! this is truly an issue with me. GOOD POST DAVE !!! SO TRUE, KELLY
