DOW youth hunt opportunity near Meeker
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) has a couple of openings remaining for a cow elk youth hunt on private land in the Meeker area on Dec. 6 and 7. To apply for the hunt, youth must be between the ages of 12 and 18, must have a valid hunter safety card and must not have previously participated in a DOW youth big game hunt.

Trapper is accused of poaching
NORTH OGDEN — A trapper accused of illegally killing bobcats was so successful that other hunters probably didn’t find many, a Utah investigator says.
Jared Beal, 40, of North Ogden, has been charged with 12 counts of wanton destruction of protected wildlife.

Big-game migration routes and winter range, trout waters spur protest
As sportsmen flock to western Colorado to hunt elk and mule deer, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership recently announced its protest of federal leases that would permit oil and gas drilling in crucial big-game winter range and migration corridors and Colorado cutthroat trout habitat. The sportsmen’s protest of the Bureau of Land Management’s Nov. 13 lease sale comprises more than 16,000 acres where energy development could have dramatic and long-term effects on game populations and the public’s outdoor traditions.

Outbreak of E. coli 0157 may be associated with exposure to elk droppings
The Jefferson County (Denver area) Department of Health and Environment and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment are investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157 infections among children in the Evergreen mountain area. Today, the state laboratory reported that specimens obtained from elk droppings in the Evergreen area have tested positive for the same strain of E. coli O157 bacteria that was identified in the children.

The Colorado Wildlife Commission will meet Thursday, November 13 at the Double Tree Hotel, 1775 East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 5 p.m.
